A coroner's inquest in New York over the
body of a baby supposed to have been pois-
oned has led to some queer revelations. The
lady who had adopted the child told a curious
story ol the tralhc in babies borne time ago
she purchased an infant for $5 but the child
sickened and it was returned to its mother.
and an oiler of $10 made for a healthy female
baby. She got the infant and a receipt for it
from a woman claiming to be its mother.
Some time after a nurse was employed for
the infant whom the adopted mother alleges
was in the employ of the woman from whom
she made the purchase and whom she
charccd with noisoninc the little one. It is
said that several societies in Nrw York give
out babies to be fed on the bottle paying the
nurses by the month and that in some cases
the imams aie sold by the nurses who have
no difficulty in getting their pay Irora the so-
cieties by presenting a borrowed baby to the
agent on tho first of each month
