yesterday afternoon when a great number of
friends followed the deceased to her last rest-

Tlie hackman will be busy as a bee to-
day and to-morrow and lo t he wears a smile
that is child-like and bland in anticipation of
the harvest.
The funeral of Lorenz Schltr who died
last night at 12:30 will take place at 4 o'clock
this afternoon from his late residence corner
of Matkel and Fresa streets.
The hotels are filled to overflowing and
although every bit of room is pressed into
service with cots and otherwise they are un-
able to meet the demands upon them.
The minstrel crew of the I.tcilT wagon arc
original and attracted a large crowd during
the entire tirocesiion. These minsuels will
give an entertainment at the springs to-
night. A driver of one of the wagons on Com-
merce street this morning wanted to fight so
bad that he Invited a policeman standing near
to hold his team while he licked the other
fellow.

were the participators in the fight. Dunbar
was considerably cat up. The whole party
will be in the court to-morrow.

plaza has been indicted by the grand jury
for selling the Police News. It is expected a

Dinney discovered a nice new valise contain-

handed the same to Captain Shardein and
the owner will find it at the police office.

Mr. Locke County Surveyor who lias been
away on official duty has returned. He in-
formed a Light reporter that the line between
lieiar and Medina counties has been finished
and the result will be made known shortly.
Laredo Uolng Well.
Tliis morning the Laredo train came in
crowded wilh people Intent on sight-seeing.
The Laredo people say their town is getting
on first rate. A $45000 market house is be
ing built and water works and a gas factory
are btirjg put up.
Federal Court.
This morning a decision was being given in
the Federal court in the case of Stevens vs.
Woodhousc. All the witnesses have been
examined but it is thought no verdict will be
returned this morning. The court will close
at 1 o'clock.

A Fight.
About 12 o'clock to-day several gentlemen
were criticising the Volksfest in a jovial though
boisterous manner. A remark was made at
which some one In the crowd took offense. A
collision took place between the parties and
chairs were resorted to one man's cranium
being pretty badly tapped with the Irg of a
chair.
The llaptlst Contention.
A large number of delegates arrived last
night and about 100 more are expected to-
day. The committee whose duty It was to
furnish the press with a list ofcHizens that
would accommodate with board and lodging
filled to give the Light the copy in time for
the hour of going to press. The total at-
tendance will be between 250 and 300.
Volksfest Uxourstons.
Three excursions on the Sunset road came
Into the city last night about 6 o'clock all
filled with excursionists to the Volksfest.
They all arrived about the same time and the
crowd the depot officials say was the largest
they ever saw at the Sunset depot.
The size of the crowd was beyond the carry-
ing capacity of the street cars and hacks and
it was some time before all the visitors pro-
cured transportation up town.
All the trains on the International coining
in last night were crowded wilh visitors and
a great many core arc expected to arrive today.

dealer from Uvalde Is stopping at the St.
Leonard hotel.
Mr. Willie Schneider the champion Turner
of Houston is in town to see the Volksfest

Mrs. T. McFailane wife of a leading mer-
