The Details of the Instructive nml llxein-
plary Life of B Sun Antonio Citizen.
There it tomethine instructive nd sfTectlnr;
in the death or John Norcroi" who recently
pitied into his rest beyond the crave.
Ite was born In Kelghley Yorkshire Knj-
lsnd in ll.e year 184 and wss only 40 years
old when he died. He was born of indus
trious parents and wss brought up in the
Methodist church. At school hii mind car
ried him to something else and he did not
mike an apt scholar. At 13 years he left
school and worked Industiioutly 16 years to
support an aged father when he apprenticed
himself to a stone cutler and carver. He soon
gave proof that. he was no ordinary appren-
tice and at the end of his apprenticeship he
stood in the front ranks of his profession as a
designer and carver in stone and wood.
Shortly after this he left his employer and
joloed his brother Smith Norcrois now of
San Antonio who made him his foreman and
they worked together for nearly 20 years.
John Norcrois needs no monument to tell of
his skill. His wotk is a sufficient testimony
to his genious in England now. The follow-
ing edifices are the proud monuments ot his
Saint Mary s church Kochdale; blowers
Memorial charcli Manchester; St. John's
church Alttingham; hospital for incurables
near Manchester; St. Paul's church Man-
chester. While building St. John's church Allilng-
ham he married the pieient widow and with
her leaves four children three boys and one
glil to mourn his Iom.
Now a word on his virtues as will be seen
from the above he was not raised in luxury
but in the strictest sense of the lerm "he was
a self made man" Neither did he s!:epon
a bed ofroset; it might be said and truly his
path was sltenn with thorns and It is just
heie where he hat shown his true greatness.
Since his ottival he has had a hard struggle
and just as he was in the way of success he
wis cut down. The wy of Providence are
As a genllemtn and Chiittian while others
would have wilted and rep'ned under their
burden you always found him the same
simple and unassuming cheerful John
Nordross always ready to lend a helping
hand and assist others in carrying their
burdens. Moreover he had a kind word and
pleasant smile for all and was loth to speak or
believe ill of of his neighbor. He was not a
member of any church though he occasionally
attended the Trinity M. E. He carried prac
ttcal Christianity in his breast. The words of
the immoitai Burns arc applicable In his case :
"His fallings even leaned to vlrtuo'ssldo."

THE DISPUTED ACCOUNT.
lie Volksrcst ITIo an Answer In Mr.
Dr. Lindner as l'resident of the Volksfest
association bis filed the following demurrer
to the plaintiff's pleadings in the case of Adam
liradcn vs. the Volksfest association in which
the plainlilTtues for $125 made up as follows:
To services of tho Ilernard band tM
To board and lodging ot band.
To making bay wugon 50
Total ... $IS5
First That it is not sufficient in law as
there are other parties who should be joined
with the plaintiff.
Second That there are other persons who
should be made parties with the defendant.
Third That the defendant cannot be made
liable in the manner and form alleged.
fourth That there is no partnership be-
tween himself and the Volksfest asioclalion.
Fifth That no partnership exists between
himself and any other persons.
Sixth That the Volksfest association is not
an incorporate body.
And on all these grounds the demurrer
claims that he be dismissed with his costs.
It may be added that the Volksfest associa-
tion have passed and ordered payment of the
$50 item for services rendered by Hits band
but they have repudiated the remainder of the
account as being unauthorized. Twcnly-five
dollars of the $50 allowed has been allowed to
Ed Ilraden on part of the plaintiff and Profes-
sor Kalzenberger of the Music committee has
instructions to pay the remaining $25 which
he now holds in his possession.
Sometlilnc; to Wonder ut.
Romance and reality are aptly exemplified
in that feature of V. W. Cole's Great Con-
solidated Shows that crowning triumph of
the century the monster theatrical stage de-
voted to many sensationnl novelties never
seen in any other circus. Among these inno-
vations peculiar to V. W. Cole Is the classic
and graceful group of bicycle experts whose
marvelous achievements on the two-wheelers
are equaled only by the intrepidity that makes
them possible. They are too brilliant daz-
zling and intricate to make any attempt at de-
Judgment by Default.
In Justice Adam's court yesterday the fol-
lowing judgments were given for the plaintiffs
owing to the non-attendance of defendants:
E. A. Coker vs. J. C.Duncan a suit for $53
on distress warrant for rent.
Louis C. Scheihagen vs. II. I'. Payne suit
on sworn account for $74 25
T. C. Frost vs. J. W. Newton tult on note
A. B. Frank & Co. vs. J. Thumm suit on
note for $150 56.
A. B. Frank & Co. vs. J. Thumm suit on
note for $148 10.
John Brady vs. James Angus garnishment
suit for $35.
Vhll Braubach vs. M. E. Guzman suit cn
sworn account for $JI 24.
Ullraann Lewis Sc. Co. vs. Louis Ahr ct al.
suit on note for $98 28.
M. Eckenroth vs. Erastus Fisk suit on note
for $70; judgment confessed by plaintiff.
