The Times of yesterday lays: "The
Street Commissioner Is engaged In con
structing a crosswalk at the corner of
Alamo nnd Last Commerce streets. The
order directing the construction of this
walk was only authorized nt the session
of the Council on Monday nnd the
promptness on the part of the Street
Commissioner In carrying It out Ishlghly
commendnblc." The Times Is not post-
ed nnd If It had rend the Council pro-
ceedings It would have seen that Mr.
Walter Scott made n proposition to put
down this crosswalk on n IX) days' trial
and also one on Nnvnrro street which
the Council accepted. The Street Com-
missioner did not have anything to do
with this crosswalk In any manner
shape or form nnd the promptness with
which the work was done Is simply the
usual way In which Mr. Scott does all
his inesqulte block pavement work.
