late last night and to-day was the news
of the shooting of Deputy I'nlltd Slates
Marshal Ferdinand Nlggll hy Sherltr
Thumm of Medina county nt Cattro-
vllle last night. Various rumors of I tin
affair reached San Antonio one of which
stated Hint Nlggll was shot through the
neck nnd would die. Tho news of the
shooting was soon continued by the re-
ceipt of n telephonic dispatch by Mr. J.
Meny nn Intimate friend of Mr. Nlggll
telling Mill to send a San Antonio physi-
cian Immediately to Castrovllle and lo
convey the news to Mr Nlggll'a wife
and mother who resldo here. Mr. Meny
Immediately nollllcd the ladles who
with Dr. Amos Oraves Captain Joe
Shely and Frank Meny at once posted In
haste to Castrovllle.
This morning Mr. Meny received a
telephone dispatch saying the putty hsd
started for San Antonio conveying the
wounded man and also giving the In-
formation that Thumm had been cap-
tured this morning In Castrovllle at I
Doctor Oraves and Captain Shely ar
rived In this city lids morning at 10

the wounded man was traveling with
