This resolution, which was recently adopted by
the Board of Directors of the Commercial Club, is,
ÍU our opinion, a decisivo step in the right direction.
It is stated ou good authority thut the committee
memorialized in the resolution is now hard at work
in the prosecution of the project mentioned.
We are heartily glad that the Commercial Club
has made this initial move toward the creation oi
"industrial Corpus Christi." it is not only desir-
able but highly necessary. Did you ever stop to
think, gentle reader, what forces there arc to sup-
port the present prosperous aspect oi this city i
xes, yim say, just think of our location, our climate,
our wonderful air! Just thing ol the splendid lor-
tility of our adjacent lands! And there the list
ends.
There are several points in this section which
possess Ihcse advantages. If Corpus Christi is to
maintain her march of triumphal progress, nIjo must
have something else to support her, she must have
the aid of Some wealth producing torees. Just now
she i« largely sustained by the money t hat is put.
into circulation by the newcomer who buys land,
and pays for it, who has his land cleared and p y«

TURN ABOUT IS FAIR PLAV
I hero seems to be a well deilned impression
throughout the country that this is going to be a
hard year from an industrial standpoint. Of course , did.

but this year there seems to be a little more base

to the disgrace. And more pitiful still ih the fact
that oftentimes the American girt does not herself
realize What she is doing until it is too late.
If experience has taught the people of this coun-
try anything clearly and plainly, it is that the best
husband for the American woman is the American
man. In the long list of marriages of American
women of money with Europeans of rank and title,
happy and enduring marriages are very few and
far between.
But this is not all. American wealth in vast
quantities is drawn to Europe to replenish the de-
pleted larders of impoverished dukes, barons arid
what not.s. American beauty is sacrificed on the
altar of greed and social, or rather we should say.
titled ambition. And then comes the familiar story
—scandal, misery and then divorce.
Hut speaking again for a moment of the money
consideration. Take the recent Vamlerbilt marriage.
It Was widely advertised as a genuine love-match.
The two young people, it. was said, were devotedly
attached ami pure sentiment alone controlled. But
when the sounds of the wedding march bad scarcely
stilled, there was deposited in the home bank of
the husband in Europe $5^00,00% transferred there
from America. And a few weeks later when his
brother sailed for bowie, he deposited With the purser
