the Tango that same afternoon.
The funeral was conducted at
his residence at 4 p. m. Wed-
nesday, the services being con-,
ducted by Rev. C. U. McLarty
and the remains were laid to
rest in Masonic cemetery an
hour later under the auspices
of the Knights of Pythias and
the Woodmen of tbt World!
There was one of the largest
corteges in attendance at the
funeral and burial that has ever
been seen at a funeral here.
The floral tributes were beauti-
ful and many. They came from
Austin. Houston, Galveston,
Navasota and other places and
constituted the finest floral trib-
ute ever seen in Caldwell. They
bore elequent tribute to the
high esteem in which deceased
was held.
He was one of Caldwell's most
•íoble, useful and distinguished
•itizens and his memory as such
will be long cherished. He was
born February 4, 1867, reared
and educated here where he al
ways lived. Admitted to the bar
vlay 24, 1892; elected city at*
• orney soon thereafter and
some time later on he was elected
no the legislature where he serv-
ed two terms. Always a lawyer
of ability he was appointed iocal
ttorney for the Santa Fe Com-
pany which he served faithfully
till his death.
He was a member of the Meth-
odist church, a good man with
numerous friends who admired
him because of his manliness,
faithfulness to duty, and his

was wedded to Miss Adine Knox
of Navasota and their lives were
as one. He was an indulgent
father, a devoted husband and a
true and genial man.
There are left surviving him,
his wife and two daughters,

The bereaved ones have the
sympathy of the entire commun-
ity.
Blacksmith Shop
Burglarized.
The other night the blacksmith
shop of Houston & Drescher
was burglarized and the grip
containing Dr. Houston's veter-
inary surgical instruments was
taken. It was found uext day
down on the branch back of the
lee plant. It had been broken
open and morphine tablets
intended for horses and some
hyperdermic needles for use on
horses and mules were stolen
out of it. Nothing else was taken.
It looks like it might have been
the work of some dope fiend.

Dallas, were here this week to
attend the bnrial of J. ft. Heslep.

AN ORDINANCE
An ordinance regulating traffic on Streets and Alleys tem|x>rarily closed to public travel for the
purpose of Repairs, Re-Construction, or Improvement,—defining barriers and providing |H*naities
for destroying or moving same, and for violation of this ordinance.
BE IT, AND IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED BY THE <'ITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CALDWELL, TEXAS.
Section 1. That the City Employees are required to erect, sufficient barriers at the extremities of
ail Streets and Alleys closfcl to public travel to indicate to the Public that said Streets or Alleys are
closed for Repairs or Re-Construction, or, in the absence of such barriers, the public shall be noti-
fied by some of the city employees that that |>articular Street or Alley is closed at that particular
jwint, and such notice shall operate as a barrier. Any and all City Employees are hereby authorized
to issue such notices.
Section 2. The presence of any portion or part of a barrier upon the original site of erection,
whether in place, altered, or shifted, shall operate as a barrier.
Secíion 3. It shall be unlawful for any person to willfully or negligently destroy, injure, displace,
or in any manner change the character of any barrier, sign, or notice so erected by said city employees.
Section 4. It shall be unlawful for any person to disregard, pass through, over, under, or around
any of the said barriers and go, or be, at any time upon the jwrtions of the Streets and Alleys thus
closed to public travel.
Section 5. It shall be unlawful for any person to tamper with, alter, destroy, or injure in any
manner or disturb stakes set by the City Engineer, Street Superintendant, Foreman, or any other
employee of the city.
6. That all ordinances in conflict herewith be, and are hereby repealed.
Section 7. That any person violating any section of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not less than Five Dollars nor
more than Fifty Dollars.
Section 0. That this ordinance be hereby declared an emergency act and shall take effect Im-
mediately after its legal passage, approval, and publication.
