Bank robberies and hold-
ups seem to have been unu-
aually numerous in various
parts of the country during
the holidays, the lo wers gen-
erally making good their er-
cape.
Much of the fraud and Ir-
regularities complained of in
many counties in this state
may be traced indirectly to
the inability of the \oter to
prepare his own ballot, hence
a voter unable to prepare his
own ballot should not be per*
mitted the exercise of the
franchise.

NEW YEAR GREETINGS
With the dawn of the New
Year the publisher of the
Ledger desires to extend cor-
dial greetings to his friends
and patrons for the generous
liberal patronage extended
the Ledger during the past
year, for which he feels ex-
tremely grateful and hopes to
merit a continuance of the
same during the present year.
We are not unmindful of the
many courtesies extended us
by the public spirited citi
zens of Caldwell and Burle-
son county during the past
pear and assure them of our
Sincere appreciation of the
same. In entering upon the
work of the new year we de-
sire to assure our patrons
that it will be our aim and
object to make the Ledger, if
possible, a reliable pervcyor
of the news of the county
and city, and in the pursu-
ance of this work we ask the
co-operation and assistance
of our rural staff and friend*
generally. In conclusion
may health, happiness, con
tentment and prosperity abide
with our friends and patron*
during this glad new year,
Col. Luther Clark, for the
past eighteen years editor of
the Dallas News, died in Cal-
ifornia a few days ago,where
he had gone for the purpose
of recuperating his health,
making the second member
of the editorial staff of the
Galveston-Dallas News to
pass away within the past
thirty days. Verily, the old-
er members of the journalis-
tic profession in Texas seem
to be realizing the call of
•'thirty*' ratber rapidly.
The federal government is
taking prompt steps to crush

of the country by the inflic-

a'l persons detected in its
manufacture or sale of the
poisonous beverage, declar-
ing them to be guilty of man-
slaughter.

requires no expertness to

Beetle of Her Health
"After years of auflOrlng Tan-
lac aure pot my wife In a fine
■Ute of health and she often
boasts of how wall a he ta feel-
ing," said George H. Hinklo of
1802 Rutland avenue. Nash-
ville, Tenn-
"Por years," be continued,
"she waa almost a confirmed
dyspeptic and ahe suffered alao
from a nervous affection. Right
after meala gaa would form on
her stomach, which kept her in
distress most all the time. She
always had to be most careful
about her eating and was trou-
bled at times with ditsiness and
swimming In the head. Por r
long time she had wanted to take
a trip north, but couldn't do ho
on account of her condition.
"When she saw Tanlac adver
tised and so many people en
dorsing it she decided to try it
and found almost immediate re
lief Tanlac ga«e her a tine ap-
petite and put her stomach in
fine shape so she could eat and
enjoy her meals without having
any trouble afterwards. She
hasn't complained of dinineea or
swimming of the head since
starting on it and that nervous
condition baa also quite disap
peered. Teniae built her up so
she waa enabled to take a trip
north, where she was gone four
months, and she waan't sick a
minute of the whole time she
was away. She is delighted
with what Tanlac hss done for
her and thinks there is no other
medicine like it."
Teniae is sold in Caldwell by
Messrs. Stone & Hitchcock.
The tide of immigration to
this country from Italy, Ruf-
sia, Poland, Greece and other
foreign countries seems to
have already reached gigan-
tic proportions, taxing the ef-
forts of the immigration com-
missiVnors to the utmost ex-
tent. While quite a large
number have passed inspec
tion end been admitted,
many have betn denied the
privilege and r qu:red to re-
trace their stt'ps. They were
of the anarchist type, bence
