believe Richard Bache, Esq. to be not only Cui-
ji capable to represent us, but one whose professions
are of the right stamp: and whereas we have every
confidence that those professions will be practised
and carried out to their fullest extent by him if
elected: Therefore . .
'¿solved, That we will give oar support at the
ejtft election for Representative to Richard Bache*
the Mechanics and Workingman's friend, and
that we will use all honorable endeavors to secure
liis election; i '
Resolved, That we cannot allow a secrct caucus,
composed of a few individuals whose interests are en-
tirely separate from ours, to nominate a candidate,
and mark out by their resolutions a course of policy
calculated to destroy the mechanical interests of the
country, as the measures to be advanced by him, and
then palm him off upon u& as the great champion of
our lights!
R&solved, That the opinions béretofore entertained
by Levi Jones, viz; that of espeiimentiug (at the
cost of the Mechanics and Workingmen) upon the
Free Port system for a few years, thereby prostrating
every. Mechanic an J Workingman in the Republic,
meets our decided disapprobation, aud that 6uch
*'theoretic views" as mentioned by him in his jircu-
la>y have ni doubt been the main spring to the actions
ofYhe CaKCK* Committee In placing him as & candi-
date before the people.
Resolved, That while we seek by all honorable
means to secure the interests and rights of Mechan-
ics and Workingmen,.We would in no way prejudice
ihe interests of other portions of the community, be-
lieving the rights of all to be alike aacred and inviola -
ble, aud we believe, should Richard Bache be elected
to Congress, be will give "equal aud exact justice to
•11." -
Resolved, That the voluntary manner in which
Richard Bache has come out before the people and
expressed his views upon all subjects of interest, is
far preferable io the cuuise pursued on the paTt of
his opponent, Levi Jones, and that his-views in re-
gard to the Coasting Trade, securing it tajour own
citizens, will be responded to by every seafaring
man in the Republic.
Resolved, That we believe Richard Bache tu be
the only independent candidate now before the peo-
ple, and '.hat the attempts of the friends of Dr. Jones,
charging him with being opposed to the Navy, are
but the schemes of the Caucus Party to blind and
delude a portion of the people for the purpose of
securing the election of their candidate.
Resolved, That a Committee of Vigilance, to con-
sist of ten members, be appointed, to make suita-
ble arrangements for the day of election.
Resolved, That the proceedings of this meeting
be published. >
On motion, adjourned. f
