night or two ago, by the gas
from a brazier of charcoal,

account of the cold weather
all the doors and windows
were closed, and the lack of
ventilation caused a most
dangerous accumulation of
carbonic arid gas from the
coals.

ing greatly beautifies the skin.
First the amis and neck are
rubbed very thoroughly with
rose water. After this has
been rubbed off, the arms and
the shoulders are covered with i
cold cream, which is allowed
to remain on iifteen minutes.
This is then rubbed off with
a piece of tine, soft white
flannel, and the arms and
shoulders are covered with
4'baby" powder and rubbed
very thoroughly. This finishes
the operation. When this is
completed they look like pnl-

An establishment for the
manufacture of pharmaceutical
chemicals on a large scale has
been sot up in Tokio by an
incorporated company with a
capital of $200,000 of which
amount the Japanese Govern-
ment contributed one-half,
free of interest, for a period
of twenty years, besides milk-
ing a free grant of land and
erecting the necessary build-
ings.
The latest rage is collecting
suspenders. AYe have mana-
ged to collect one pair in the
last five years, which isn't bad
for a man who hasn't pants t o
