TEXAS SECESSION NEWSPAPERS.
"The tyrannous and bloody net is done;
The iuoKt nrch deed of piteotiH massacre."
The secession newspapers of the South, during1'
4i b relwlliout deserve particular notice, as thuy
*erted an important and direful influence in that
troubled period. These vile and unprincipled
iLudereo of the most hateful despotism that ever
curw-'d tliti earth, should not be so soon forgotten;

South to their destruction
Texas had her full share of such ovil influences,
anl to those newspapors may we now justly at-
¡¡^months, saying nothing about their agency in pl°n*e attend to receiving th- u- freight as landed,
«reeipitatiug us into the vortex.
The secession newspapers of Texas (nnd to my
mind's eye, two oT them are particularly in view,)
were issued weekly, sem.'-weekly and daily, and
for extra glorion* news! little bulletins, ycleped
exlran, were scattered about aR thick as autumn
leaves', to fuither delude and deceive the people.
All the statements concerning the war, and "our
uremt situation," as contained in these lying
ohrouitJe®. were taken for truths by the masses.
Mercury, tho literary god of newspapers, xssaid
to have been a liar, but Mercury was too humane
a god to lkivo countenanced the diabolic rhapso-
dies of our secession press; Beelzebub, the father
of sin, was a more compatible patron.
Let us look in upon a secession editor's sanctum
«ome fine Confederate morning; here we find a
«harp visaged man, with well cut beard, dressed
in a fall suit of t he finest Confederate military
gray cassimere; his nether limbs cased in military
t ip boots, of English make—seated in a large easy
c lair, and o jcupied in the agreable employment
of reading, cogitating and culling the laRt Rich-
nvml Express, and as he reads and thinks, he anon
puffs from between his compressed lips the smoke
of a mild Havana. To his right, at a convenient
distance, stands a circular table, and on that table

Emigration.
TO PLANTERS AND LAND HOLDERS :
The change that lias taken piace In the labor system
in tilla ¿tale, it Is presumed, will lead to a large im-
migration from the Northern states nd from Europe,
early in the spring of 18C«. Many of the large farms
and plantations, heretofore cultivated with slave la-
bor, may be ottered for sale or lease in moderate si'/ed
lots.
The owners of these lands, and of unimproved
lands, will lind it to their advantage, to have the at-
tention of immigrants directed to such lands as may
suitthei? purpoxea.
AUG. BUTTLAR, Real Estate Agent, at Gal-
veston, *v|ll give his particular attention to this mat-
ter, and persons wishing to s.dl or ¡ease iands to im-
migrants, will do well to forward to him a lull descrip-
tion of tho nature of their lands, their situation, soil,
water facilities, proprotion of timber an1 prairie, and
for what branch of agriculture they will be best suit-
ed—if for the culture of cotton or grain, for the rais-
iug of stocK, for th" cu tivation of the grape, etc.
