(?) but by time the soldiers
got through reading them they were
in shreds & having no (?) we could
not then send them except by a chosen
opportunity. Our (?) now extend
to Napolean on the Mississippi & we
might now get Fedl papers if they were
not forbidden circulation on the Mi.
I heard last night however that the
"Chicago Times" had been received at
(?) above here which contained the
glorious intelligence of the defeat of
Mead at Gettysburg taking according
to that paper  (?) (?) (?). After
which he made a (?) of attack
upon Baltimore whilst instead he
rushed into Washington City taking
the Yankees.capitol & 21000 (?)
it for their state, he blew up all the
public buildings inothe city but one.
The man that told me did not recollect which one
soon excepted. - that he kad also
