My Dear Wife, I only write because I have an opportunity of sending letter by (?) (?). Sent you a letter by Baker telling you what had been sent by him. I know the children are delighted with their picture books. - let us try to make these books a pleasure rather than be compelled to (?) them a task. The news so depressed me that to drive it away as much as possible I have set about a big task. - it is to copy all my notes of two courses of lecture & 3 businesses at the Hospital. I have made 25 pages today. - will refresh my memory with valuable lessons over learned but nearly forgotten & (?) (?) in the stand of a library. I miss the books the flood carried off. were all late & valuable. San Antonio is full of strangers & cotton is going through like it was being run from an enemy. After tomorrow no permits will be granted & it is rumored that the govt will seige all that remains. - a good idea I think. I had a present of a lb butter two or three days ago. - eat it all up already. I received a letter from (?) (?) today (?) Ma's letters I had sent her. - all well - said (?) - (?) had gone to his (?) but have not seen him. Yours truly DWFentress
