Hemphill, the Leading
County of the Pan-
handle.
Canadian, the City of
Cities of Northern
Texas and the
Panhandle.
Ever Progressive and
Enterprising, She
Leads the Pro-
cession.
Wieki, Wocki, Wupi,
Eureka!
The gods hath so ordained and they
must be obeyed.
Canadian the Hercules of the South-
west still growing and building rap-
idly. Her light is dazzling all the
cities. The country and the people
itand amazed at her growth and
strength.
But a short time ago, three months
this day, arid where Canadian now is
was then only a bare piece of land and
not a house to be seen. Wondrous
change! To-day the people are hurry-
ing to and fro, seeing about their ma-
terial to build. Cattle being shipped
by the thousands to Kansas City and
Chicago.
People trading here, from No-Man's
Land, from all over the Panhandje, in-
cluding Mobeetie and surrounding
country. Traders from long distances
on the north of Canadian. Traders
from the south of Canadian. Traders
from the east of Canadian. Traders
from the west of Canadian. And tra-
ders from all around Canadian. All
making Canadian their trading point.
The era of high prices in the Pan-
handle is a day of the past. The
spirit of high prices for the necessaries
of life has soared heavenward, and
Canadian is reaping the benefits from
the people who come here to trade.
Many beautiful buildings are in the
course of construction, some of which
are the new Bank building, the County
Court House, a new Hotel and thirty-
five or forty more buildings.
We wish to impress upon the minds
of the public at large that Canadian
has the largest hotel, and the largest
building in the Panhandle.
A kiln of fine brick has just been
burned here, and they are of first-class
quality. A car load has already been
sold, to be shipped away, and the brick
are not yet cold.
Carpenters are at work by the score,
and new buildings can be seen going
up in all directions, any of which
would be a credit to cities of thou-
sands. The people here are live, ener-
getic, liberal, wide awake business
men who have that push which char-
acterizes a good booming town. Men
of prominence. Men whose names are
familliar in all parts of the state are
locating here, and are bringing their
families.
Best in Texas.
Mr. L. B. Collins, who is general
agent, state of Texas, for James II.
Campbell & Co., shipped 2,500 head of
cattle from this point to his firm last
week.
In conversation with Mr. Collins,
the question was asked, what he
thought of the stock yards here. He
replied, "I have shipped cattle from
about every point in Texas, and I as-
sure you from practical knowledge
that Canadian's yards and shipping
point are the finest in the state. This
is the reason cattle are being driven
off trom the Fort Worth & Denver, and
from Colorado City." Mr. Collins
makes Canadian his headquarters,
lie is a gentleman of large experience
and a rustler.
