High praise for Vocational
Agriculture instructor Rex
Kennedy and the boys of the
Canadian FFA chapter came
to the Canadian schools this
week from J. R. Jackson, su-
perintendent of the 1959 Hous-
ton Fat Stock Show.
In a letter to Supt. Woodie
Beene, Professor Jackson
wrote:
"Once a year as superin-
tendent of the Swine Show, I
have the privilege of working
with high school vocational
agriculture students and their
teachers at the Houston Fat
Stock Show. I enjoy this for it
gives me the opportunity to
observe their actions, behavior
and attitudes. This broadens
my perspective and keeps me
aware of the problems con-
fronting our schools in select-
ing teachers and developing
currlcull for our schools.
"I take pleasure In com-
mending you, your school and
community for having an out-
standing vocational agricul-
ture program as evidenced by
your teacher, Mr. Kennedy,
and the FFA members from
your school who exhibited
swine at the 1959 Houston Fat
Stock Show. These boys were
well behaved, cooperative and
attentive to their duties. They
were, as far as I could ascer-
tain, gentlemen at all times.
I feel that the training they
received by exhibiting will
have a lasting beneficial in-
fluence upon them.

leaders of boys and I com-
mend you and your school for
having a man of his type as
a teacher in your school. I
feel that the boys under his
supervision received superior
training during the Houston
Fat Stock Show."

March 20, 1959
Friday will be the most important day tor Canadian's
Future in years. This is the election where the Truth Com-
mittee and their bunch are trying to vote out the City
Manager Plan tor Canadian. As you know, we carried this
by 4 votes in spite of their bitter opposition and work.
For the life of me, I can't understand why they have fought
this Businesslike form of Government tooth and toe-nail
and have resorted to every means possible to scare the
votes into being opposed to the City Manager Plan. It's all
so very simple—we propose to elect men as our City Offi-
cials who are willing to serve their Community for S5 peí
month. They will, in turn, hire an experienced man with
the proper background to manage the affairs of our City
under their supervision. This experienced man—who knows
his business—will save our City Thousands of Dollars each
year and will be able to work out long range plans that
are necessary for every City. Of course, that's going to
eliminate the old deal of S100 month for Mayor and S50
month for Commissioners—a nice income for some people,
but a mighty poor way to run a Million Dollar Businjss.
This Plan hes worked every place it has been tried. Each
year, more and more Cities are going to this Business Plan
of running a City. 1 don't know of any town that has tried
it that has voted it out. Wo have voted it in here—but they
know if we get a fair chance to see it work, well never
want to change it back. The big majority of our Business-
men, teachers, home-owners and civic leaders are in favor
of this proven Business Way of running our City. Which
side do you think has Canadian's Interests most at heart?
Doesn't it seem strange to you that all but one of the City
Officials you have elected the past 6 years are in favor of
the City Manager Plan? Aren't these men who have put
their time into trying to run the City's business in a better
position to know what the City needs than the man on the
street corner? They have proven that they axe Interested
in our Community.
Jess, Jim and Othello tried to make you Hiinfc that taxes
haven't been reduced. In spite of all their statements, the
fact remains that if you paid $30 City taxes la 1952, you
pay $2S today—or if you paid $120. you now pay only $100.
It Is also a fact that they conveniently overlooked $10,000
In Government Bonds the City owns In arriving at some of
their figures. I'm not going into all the stuff they tried to
tell you except to tell you they can't prove any of it
1 am frank to tell you that I am sick and tired of all this
rabble rousing and hate campaign that has been engineer-
ed by those opposed to this plan. Ifs certainly tragic that
anyone who has always tried to help their Community has
to also put himself, and his family, up as a target for a
crowd that has no more interest in Canadian's future than
a Jaybird. It would, however, be mere tragic to turn this
ever to the crowd that wants It so bad.
You are the Judge and Jury—Your Vote will decide whether
Canadian will continue to go forward or slip back like a
let of other little towns have. Before you vote, be sure that
yea have the correct information about this Business Way
of running oar Million Dollar Business, tf you have any
doubts. why dent you visit with some civic leaders you
have confidence In as to their Ideas? We now have the
City Man agir Plan — VOTO AGAINST CHANGING IT —

WITH FAITH
Faith builds a bridge across the gulf..

There was a man who trembled at the frowns
of Fortune ... until, reaching up, he touched
a guiding hand.
There was a child who used to cry against
the unknown terrors of the night... until an
ever-shining light dispelled them.
There was a wrinkled woman wracked with
anguish at her numbered days ... who found
warmth and comfort in the shawl of prayer.
FIND THE STRENGTH FOR YOUR LIFE
Despair comes easily in solitude. But with Faith,
you re never alone. God is your constant com-
panion. He helps you find the courage, security
and hope you need to bridge your trials.
His help is yours for
