Wildcats to meet Bucks in
first home game Friday
Canadian 'B' team plays Wheeler

With a narrow victory over
the Class B Wheeler Mus-
tangs under their belts to op-
en the season, the Canadian
Wildcats will make their first
appearance at Wildcat Stadi-
um i n Canadian tomorrow
night with scant hopes of re-
peating.
The White Deer Bucks, Dis-
trict 1-A favorites and peren-
nial football powers, will in-
vade Canadian Friday night
to do battle with the Wildcats
and the visitors will be heav-
ily favored.
Loaded with power and
speed, the Bucks made easy
work of the Groom Tigers last
Friday night, and will heavily
out-weigh the Wildcat grid-
ders here.
The Bucks won last year at
Junior high grid
team to play
six games
Canadian Junior High grid-
ders will play a six - game
schedule this season, includ
ing four conference games.
The Kittens will open the
season on September 26, play-
ing Shamrock hre; and meet
Lefors here in their first con-
ference game on September
28.
They will play conference
pames with Clarendon there
on October 5. and with Mc-
Lean here on October 12:
meet Wellington there in a
non-conferenco game on Oc-
tober 19; and close the season
and the conference schedule
at Memphis on October 26.

to play the Class B Owls at
Silverton; the McLean Tigers
take on the Class B Wheeler
Mustangs at Wheeler, and the
Memphis Cyclones play the
Class B Estelline Bearcats at
Estelline. The 2-A clubs will
be favorites.
The Lefors Pirates of 2-A
will face tougher going, how-
ever, when they take on the
Class AA Shamrock Irish in a
game which should shed some
light on the relative strength
of two district powers. The
Irish were beaten in a high-
scoring contest last week by
McLean.
In other area games, Dis-
trict 1-A teams will also be
in action against assorted
foes. Panhandle meets Groom;
Stinnett plays Spearman;
Stratford plays Texhoma; the
Sunray Bobcats open the sea-
son against the Tulia Hornets
at Sunray, and the Gruver
Grayhounds take on the Class
AA Perryton Rangers at Per-
ry ton.
A "B" team game between
Canadian Wildcat and Wheel-
er Mustang reserves will be
played tonight (Thursday) at
Wildcat Stadium in Canadi-
an.
Game time will be 7 o'clock.
Coach Lawrence Overcast
will have a squad of seven-
teen to draw from, if present
plans are unchanged.
On the roster are David
Cook, 145 • pound freshman
fullback; Bill Grist, 116, and
James Smith, 120, both fresh-
men, at halfbacks; Don Cro-
sier, sophomore halfback; Don
Gutierrez, both freshman
backf ield prospects; Larry
Rabb, a 155-pound sophomore
transfer from Plainview who
is ineligible for the Wildcat
team; and Jerry Petree, 130-
pound sophomore, at ends;
Mike Henderson, 150 pound
freshman, and James Crosier,
135 pound sophomore, at tack-
les; Bill Owens, 140, Joe Gu-
tierreez, 140, and Johnny
Wright, 125, sophomores, as
guards; Benny Eckles, fresh-
man, and Jerry Wheeler,. 135-
pound junior, as centers; Dee
Alvin Haines and Frank Rob-
bins, freshmen.
Mrs. Claude Milom left on
Wednesday to visit her daugh-
ter and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Joel Peterson and Teri Jane,
of Gallup, New Mexico.
