Mayor Annette Strauss Papers

In 1983, Strauss won an at-large seat on the Dallas City Council. She became deputy mayor pro tem in 1984, during which time she fought for homeless families and was the vision behind a family shelter, still open today, and called the Family Gateway. In 1987, she was elected mayor of Dallas, accomplished without the direct support of the Dallas Citizens Council, and she led the city for two terms.
