The Velasco public free school is
mogiesslng. J. M. Carlisle superln-
o.ident, of public Instruction writes
¡ to Mr. T. E. Douthit expressing sur*
Rrise that the papers including peti-
on and census of the children of Vel-
I asco should have been forwarded to
1 his department instead of to J. P.
• Taylor, the county superintendent.
' They Were sent from Velasco to the
county judge and it seems that the
county judge made this mistake per-
haps inadvertantly. State superin-
tendent Carlisle has returned tne pa-
pers and they will now go through
the proper channel, and Velasco's
pro rata of the public funds will be
added to the regular funds belonging
to the county.

I'rlduy Night's Meeting.
The meeting at the city hall ou last
Friday night to discuss the incorpor-
ation ouestioii was not generally at-
tended, on account of shortness of the
notice and from the fact that the dod-
irerB gotten out to announce the meet-
ing were dated "June!27th" Instead of
"June 17th",
Many persons who saw the dodgers
paid no attention to them from the
tact of this error in the date.
There wero between seventy-five
and one-luindred present when the
house was called to order and proceed-
ed to business by electing J.C Cannon
chairman and W. J. Buck secretary.
Messrs J. H. Shapard, J.W.Camp-
bell, G. W. Crawford, J. B. Shea and
W. K. Murrell spoke agalnat Inoor-
Kration, while W. G. Lore, J. C.
,nnon, Col. H. E. Peyton and O. H.
Pen nock spoke for the proposition.
The discussion was rather heated and
more personalities were Indulged In
than should have been, and as usual
these personalties killed all the good
effects of the argument set forth. A
i«solution was Introduced, and after
a heated discussion passed, to the ef-
fect that it was the sense
of the meeting that it Is
unwise to Incorporate now.
A motion to adjourn till Tuesday
night was lost.
