Notes

Libbie Rice Farish (1888-1978) was a member of the Rice family of Houston. Her great-uncle William Marsh Rice founded Rice University. She was the wife of William Stamps Rice, a founder of Humble Oil and Refining Company and later president of Standard Oil. She was a patron of the arts and education, a lifetime trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, a founding trustee of St. John's School, a trustee of the William Stamps Farish Fund at Rice University and a major contributor to the Society for the Performing Arts.
