Additional historic information: The Hotel Galvez also known as the "Queen of the Gulf" is a historic hotel located in Galveston, Texas, United States that opened in June of 1911. The address is 2024 Seawall Blvd, Galveston, TX 77550. The building was named the Galvez, honoring Bernardo de Gálvez, 1st Viscount of Galveston, for whom the city was named. Bernardo de Gálvez lived from 1746 to 1786 and was a Spanish military figure and colonial government administrator. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 4, 1979. The hotel opened in June of 1911 and the original cost to build the hotel was 1 million dollars.
