Dallas Doings
Tenth year of Janis Levine
Music Women and
Children's Endowment
Fund celebrated
On May 19, over 110 Dallas
Jewish women gathered to celebrate
the 10th Anniversary of the Janis
Levine Music Women and Chil-
dren's Endowment Fund. The fund's
committee, comprised of family and
friends of the late Janis Levine
Music, hosted the reception at the
home of Phyllis Steinhart.
The Janis Levine Music Women
and Children's Endowment Fund, a
designated fund of the Dallas Jewish
Community Foundation, awards
grants annually to social, cultural,
educational, religious (spiritual)
and health programs that benefit
directly or are of great importance
to women and children.
The fund was established in 1995
by Josephine (Joey) Daniels, Sara
Music and Josh Music in memoriam
of their mother, Janis Diane Levine
Music, who died at the age of 47 after
a cour ageous battle with breast cancer.
She was a role model and active phil-
anthropist during her lifetime, and
many organizations continue to ben-
efit from her generosity of spirit today.
At the event, attendees enjoyed
imported chocolates, champagne and
strawberries. Barbara Gutow spoke to
the women about the organizations
and programs that have ben efited from
the fund, such as the National Council
of Jewish Women's"Home Instruction
for Parents of Preschool Youngsters"
(HIPPY) program, Jonathan's Place,
Akiba Academy, Dallas CASA and
Jewish Family Service. She also shared

Israeli political insider to
address Dallas Community
The Dallas Jewish Community has
the rare opportunity to hear one of
Israel's most prominent citizens, Dr.
Yossi Olmert on Thursday, June 9. Born
into one of Israel's most prestigious fam-
ilies, Dr. Olmert is a world-renowned
Middle Eastscholarwhoisverymucha
political insider as well as a much-pub-
lished journalist and author. Fluent in
Arabic and English as well as his native
Hebrew, his masterful analyses and pre-
sentations are informed by his
first-hand access to policy makers in
Israel and the Arab world.
During this summer, Israel will be
under great scrutiny as the settle-
ments are dismantled. Dr. Olmert is
in a unique position to provide first-
hand information on how events in
Israel will affect Israeli citizens, her
neighbors and the entire Middle
East.
Dr. Olmert has served as Director
of the Government Press Office under
Prime Minister Yitzchak Shamir,
securing press relations with many
countries including the former Soviet
Union, and the People's Republic of
China. He represented the Prime Min-
ister in conferences around the globe.
Today he is a prominent journalist
in the Israeli press, and is a political
columnist for YediotAharonot, Israel's
largest circulation daily, and a regular
commentator for The Jerusalem Post.
BnaiZion and Congregation Anshai
Torah are excited to have the opportu-
nity to bring Dr. Olmert to the Dallas
Jewish Community at the beginning of
this momentous summer.
The entire community is invited to
hear Dr. Olmert on Thursday, June 9,
7:30 p.m. at Congregation Anshai
