formed and become a community
builder."
In addition to the visual changes,
the building will operate more effec-
tively. All of the clergy will be in one
spot, the administration offices will
be close to the religious school and
the classrooms will be easily acces-
sible. There will be a better security
system, more efficient air condition-
ing units, increased insulation and
different lighting systems to make
the facility green as well.
Stephen Enda, who became tem-
ple president last June, has been a
member since 1994 and is excited to
see the project come to fruition. He
believes the new building will maxi-
mize people's spiritual growth.
"We bill ourselves as a warm,
welcoming, vibrant community and
are now matching our aesthetics to
our philosophy," he said. "With the
new entryway and adult lounge, one
can't come in and not feel comfort-
able, invited, welcomed and safe.
Our theme this year is yad b'yad and
that epitomizes that we are a com-
munity, and we hope that people
will be able to find meaning and
personal growth at Temple Shalom."
Rabbi Paley added that the tem-
ple family and wider Jewish com-
munity will benefit from the trans-
formation.
"We want to continue to high-
light the pride people feel about be -
ing at temple," he said. "That feeling,
matched with a beautiful environ-
ment, is great. I hope to make the
congregation excited about this and
offer experience in the best pos-
sible settings, while also inviting
the community to share in our joy.
I couldn't ask for a better moment to
be a part of; it's very exciting."

Carol Sobol
The Legacy of Willow Bend is highlighting Carol Sobol, one of many stars, in our very successful
volunteer program. She is the founder of "It's a Wrap." Carol describes her project simply as "people
helping people by knitting/crocheting scarves and hats for those in need." She presented her project
to The Legacy of Willow Bend and a knit/crochet group was formed. The Legacy of Willow Bend has
donated 120 scarves to the Austin Street Shelter and 132 scarf/hat sets to needy children in the West
Dallas Independent School District. Our women take such pride in their work that this has become
more than a knit/crochet group. Carol is truly a star volunteer.
