Houston Truck Line
Sold This Week
~0-
I have sold the Madisonville Hous-
ton Truck line to 0. W. Standley of
this city and Bill Hyde of Huntsville,
former owner of the Houston Dallas
Bus line.
Mr. Standley is well known to the
citizenship of Madisonville and vicini-
ty. Mr. Hyde is a thorough business
man and will move to our city and
give his personal attention to the
business at an early date. In the
meantime I will continue the business
until they make the necessary pre
parations to take it over, at which
time they will probably make some
change in the schedule and give to
this section a daily service on freight
and express tc our city.
I want to express my appreciation
to the "business men of Madtsoirville
and Midway for the Jiberal patronage,
and trust that my successors will have
t&e same patronage' from you that
has been accorded me in the past.
; You; may be assumed that the new
ownerfc will do everything in their
power to give you the best service
possible and I trust you may show to
them the same courtesies that have
been mine to enjoy the past few
months.
The truck depot will be the same
as before, 1119 Vine St. 'Houston.
Very respectfully,
J. E. WELLS.
OVER 2000 VOTES POLLED
IN MADISON COUNTY SATURDAY
The first primary is over but the'
running in Madison county seems to
have just begun. There will be five
run offs: that of County Judge be-
tween J. M. Roberts, and W. L. Robin-
son; Tax Collector between J. A.
Fannin and Mace Thompson; Treasur-
er between Mrs. Ruth Park and T. H.
Wren; School Superintendent between
S. F. Hoke and R. V. Ford; Commis-
sioner and Justice of the Peace, be-
tween 0. L. Brown and R. B. Bullard.
So far as we know this has been the
cleanest and most quiet election that
has been pulled off in Madison county
in many years and the fellows in the
above races are grooming themselves
for the second and last round which
will be Saturday, August 25.
The vote was much heavier than ex-
pected in some localities for it had
been predicted that a light vote would
be polled owing to the little interest
taken by the voters generally. A.
detailed vote from each precinct is
given elsewhere in the Meteor for the
benefit of our readers which is always
appreciated by them. This is in the
county precinct races only. To give
it for the entire ticket would be too
long and take too much time to set it
iip and the voters are not so much in-
terested in this any way.
In the state ticket, Governor Moody
swept the state with a big majority
over all his opponents. For U. S
Senate the run off will be between
Earl B. Mayfield and Congressman
Tom Conally. For Lieutenant gov
enior, there will be a run off between
ferry Miller and Tom Love; State
Superintendent, the run off will be
between Marrs an|l Garner. This will
be all the run off$ in state politics.
Nat Patton defeated Phillips for
State Senator from this district and
Judge S. W. Dean defeated Judge
Carl T. Harper by an overwhelming
vote in all the counties of the district.

MR.

THANK COUNTY FOR VOTES
Madison County Folks
Attend Short Course
Quite a number from Madison
County are in attendance at the
Farmers' Short Course being conduct-
ed at College Station this week. Vir-
gil Ford and Supt. R. A. Manire
went over Saturday with the six win-
ners in Madison county whose names
appeared last week. The trip was
given to these free by the four banks
of Madison county and the Chamber
of Commerce. Great benefits are to
be derived from these courses if those
who attend will go for the good they
get out of it and not just to frolic and
most of them go for the latter we
would guess.
Madison county is forging to the
front in Agriculture and in the pro-
duction of cream and poultry; keep-
ing abreast with any East Texas
County and ahead of most of them
Many improvements have been made
this year in the various dairy herds
of the county, and poultry, hogs and
water melons are coming In for their
share of profits as well as cotton and
corn.
TO THE VOTERS OF
MADISON COUNTY
We are under- continued and last-
ing gratitude to the people of Madi-
son County because of the splendid
majority received Saturday at the
polls. For every thoughtful consid-
eration, we are profoundly grateful.
We shall strive to serve you in a
courteous, painstaking manner that
should be characteristic of any official.
Again thanking you for your loy-
alty, and pledging our best efforts
to merit it, we are,
Yours for service,
Mr. and Mrs. J. Luther Broadway.
Miss Ruth Kennedy of Grapeland
and Miss Lauradel Walker of Hunts-
ville who have been visiting Mis3
Fae Anderson returned to their home
Monday.
I take this means of thanking
each and every one for your liberal
support in my race for sheriff in the
July Primary.
Respectively,
J. R. GIBSON
NOTICE
I am taking this method to express
to the voters of Madison County my
gratitude for the splendid vote given
me last Saturday in the Primary.
I shall try to show my appreciation by
giving you the best service I am capa-
ble of rendering as your tax assessor
for the next two years.

AID RECEIVED
FOR ROAD WORK
Judge W. V. Jones received a check
Wednesday for the Madison County
bonds for the purpose of building the
lateral roads and Highway 75 through
the county from the Walker County
line to Leon County line which
amounted to $210,000.00 interest and
premium for both purposes. Work
on the lateral roads has been well
under way for some time and the
highway commission will let the con-
tract on 75 as soon as the law will
permit after advertising for bids,
which will be about September 1.
The highway department has been
waiting on this for several months,
anxious to let the contract and extend
the highway through Madison County.
Leon County is rapidly pushing their
work so as to be ready to let their
contracts at an early date.

Record Sales Made
Of Chevrolet Cars
The Chevrolet Motor Company,
whose unprecedented sales and pro-
duction rccord of placing on the road
750,000 "Bigger and Better" models
since January 1, established a new
mark for the sale of a new model,
announces this week the addition to
its line of a new utility truck. The
new truck, which embodies several
improvements, chief of them a four
speeds forward transmission, four
wheel brakes and channel steel bum-
per, went into production in the var-
ious Chevrolet plants July 2. It will
be on view this week in dealers'
showrooms throughout the country.

R. L. Steele was here from Houston
last week to cast a vote for the good
of his -country. Capt. Connor sent in
his renewal to the Meteor by him.
