Inaugurating the
UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE
JULY 1.1971
To The Editor
Dear Mr. Trejo,
I, for one, resent the insinuations, allegations, and accusations
you have made against Mr. Roque Guerra, We, the constituents of
his precinct, voted for him because he was, and is, the most capa-
ble and honest man for the job. I consider it a privilege to know
him personally. During the years that I was in the band, I noticed
that Mr. Guerra always had time to help his students with whatever
problems we had. There was a tremendous student-teacher rela-
tionship. Now that I know him on an adult basis, I respect ami ad-
mire him even more. I know it's a long way from replacing broken
reeds and missing screws on an instrument to his present position
in a political office, but I trust him wholeheartedly to get the job
done.
I don't completely understand why you have chosen to start a per-
sonal vendetta against Mr. Guerra. Heaven knows there are many
politicians in Starr County who are crooked and are taking advan-
tage of the taxpayers' money. Why don't you speak out against these
others? Mr. Guerra has worked long and hard for this community
for many years. He, more than anyone, deserves whatever revenue
is coming to him now.
It's a shame that some are jealous about the naming of West
Grammar after Mr. Guerra. You probably would have nothing but
praise if it had been named, say Pete Diaz Elementary. All things
considered, it is my opinion that Mr. Guerra is well-qualified and
I support his endeavors thoroughly.
Sincerely,
Maria Imelda Rodriguez

EDITOR'S NOTE—Blessed are those who look at the world through
rose-colored glass .... I admire your loyalty to Mr. Guerra. Not
only was he a competent band director but he was and is an exam-
plary man in his personal life throughout all the years he has been
here; and that exactly is the reason we expect more from him than
we do from the run-of-the-mill politician the captive voters have
been electing to office in the past few decades. The crooked politi-
cians you mention will be dealt with shortly. And as far as Mr.
Guerra is concerned, we still expect good things from him. I ser-
iously doubt that you could call one editorial with its only objective
to correct what we see wrong a vendetta .... but as we said be-
fore blessed are those who look at the world through a rose-colored
glass . ... for they shall see nothing but pretty things and beauti-
ful pecple .... Raul Trejo.

When whales are washed ashore thoy are helpless. Without
the support of water they cannot move, and their lungs
may be crushed by the weight of the body.
The whaler's expression "thar she blows" refers to a
whale's discharge of warm breath, which condenses in the
cold air into a visible vapor, when a whale surfaces.

difference being that the new
ones would be in a smaller
