Starr 4-Her's Participate In Food Show
Over eighty Starr County 4-
H'ers entered the 1975 Starr
County 4-H Food Show held on
Saturday, January 18, at the
Multipurpose Center in Rio
Grande City. Top winners and
runners-up were named, and
blue, red, and white ribbons
were awarded in Main Dishes;
Side Dishes; Breads and
Desserts; Snacks and
Beverages; and Nutrition
Health Poster Divisions.
Taking top honors in the Main
Dishes category, Senior
Division, was Velma Montalvo
of San Isidro 4-H. Runner-up
was Vanessa Vicinaiz of San
Isidro 4-H. Junior Division Top
Winner was Martin Volpe Jr.,
Roma 4-H. The runner-up was
Sonya Saenz of San Isidro 4-H.
Top winner in the Poster
Contest, Senior Division, was
Mari Montalvo of San Isidro 4-
H, and the runner-up was Rose
Marie Delano of Roma 4-H.
Junior Division Poster Contest
winners were Dillia Montalvo of
San Isidro 4-H top winner, and
Elda Montalvo of San Isidro 4-
H, runner-up.
Cindy Hinojosa of Starr-
Grande 4-H was top winner in
the Senior Division-of the Side
Dishes category, and Rose
Marie Delano of Roma 4-H was
the runner-up. Top winner in
the Junior Division was Sara
Hinojosa of Starr-Grande 4-H,
and Belinda Gonzales of Starr-
Grande 4-H was runner-up.
Senior Division top winner in
the Breads and Desserts
category was Delia Lopez of
Starr-Grande 4-H, and Kana
Kieffe of Roma 4-H was the
runner-up. Junior Division top
winner was Rosie Alaniz of San
Isidro 4-H, and James Smith of
Falcon 4-H was the runner-up.
Bonnie Munoz of Starr-
Grande 4-H was the top winner
in the Snacks and Beverages
category, Senior Division, and
Karen Gonzales of Starr-
Grande 4-H was tin: runner-up.
Junior Division top winner was
Tyrone Montgomery of Roma 4-
H, and Elda Montalvo of San
Isidro 4-H was runner-up.
The winners were named
during an Awards Program
held at 3:00 p.m. following the
judging. During the judging,
parents were welcomed by
Mary Trevino of Roma 4-H.
They then enjoyed a program
entitled, "Tips for Good Health
and Happy living" by Jaime
Garza of the Starr County
Health Department.
Master of Ceremonies for the
Awards Program was Victor
Vicinaiz. Dana Kieffe gaVe the
welcome, and Noel Garza led
the opening ceremonies. The
judges were introduced by
Chris Butcher. Commissioner
Reynaldo Alaniz presented the
awards, assisted by Mary
Trevino, Trade Homard, and
Veronica Gonzalez. Thank
you's were given by Marissa
Cortez.
Ribbons were presented to
each participant. Senior
Division entrants in the Main
Dish category were Lillie
Montalvo, San Isidro 4-H, blue;
Willie Rodriguez, Starr-Grande
4-H, blue; Maria Teresa De la
Garza, Roma 4-H, red; Sandra
Diana Gonzalez, Starr Grande

Young Farmers Club
Plans Western Dance
A Western Dance is being planned by the Starr County
Young Fanners Organization. The dance will be open to the
public and is scheduled for Friday night, January 31. The
Country Roland Band will play for dancing from 8 to 12 p.m.
Everyone is invited to come on out to the Knights of
Columbus Hall in Rio Grande City next Friday night and join
in the fun. Admission will be charged, and tickets may be
bought from any member of Starr County's newest
organization, the Starr County Young Farmers.
