one out, designated hitter Mike
Lopez singled, and Salinas then
belted a long drive over the left
center field fence. Coach Roel
Olson commented, "I think the ball
went 340 to 350 feet."
The victory meant that the
Rattlers now have a l'/i game lead
in district play over the second
place Bulldogs, with three games
remaining. In last week's action,
the Bulldogs suffered a defeat and
a tie at the hands of the McAllen
Memorial junior varsity.
Javier Garcia and Ralph
Ramirez combined to pitch a
two-hitter, with Ramirez coming in
to provide relief help in the sixth
inninng. Garcia was, credited with
the win.

blow being a two-run single by first
baseman Aaron Balli.

eight hits, while the Bulldogs
scored four runs on two hits. The
Bulldogs got both of their hits in
the sixth inning, when they scored
two runs. Rattler pitching yielded
five bases on balls. Rio made one
error in the field to two for
McAllen.
The Rattlers scored three runs in
the fourth and another three in the
fifth to take a 6-0 lead. McAllen
scored one run in the fifth, two in
the sixth, and one in the seventh.
The Bulldogs scored one run in
the bottom of the seventh, and had
runners on first and third with one
out. But Ramirez was able to get a
Bulldog hitter to pop out, and the
next batter grounded out to
shortstop to end the game.
Salinas was the leading Rio
hitter, going 3 for 3 with two
singles beside his crucial three-run
homer. Designated hitter Mike
Lopez went 2 for 4.
Olson commented, "We're almost
at our peak on defense We really
jelled and came through last night.
We had some good plays by
shortstop Roberto Rodriguez and
by left fielder Knox Jones. Hugo
Bazan did an excellent job behind
the plate."
Olson a-ded, "The games have
been very exciting to watch. The
defense tightened up and our
pitching came through...The dis-
trict has been very competitive and
very tough."

games will be home games against
Edinburg on Monday, April 18 and

keep it up. We have three district
games left We want to savor being
in first place."
