Grulla 6th graders
recycle for inventions
Sixth grade studcnLs from Grulla
Jr. High made inventions from
recycled materials as part of an
environment study recently.
StudcnLs planned and made their
inventions from commonly found
materials around their homes.
Inventions included second timers,
boats, including a barge and a
motor boat, bird nests, lamps,
small electric fans, an automatic
pencil, paper maichc Christmas
bells, Christmas trees and a film
viewer complete with a story and
drawings made by the inventor.
According to the teacher, Mrs.
Patricia Nibert, the students
thoroughly enjoyed their projects
and learned that even when one
recycles something, you still end
up with material that will
eventually have to end up in a
landfill somewhere.
Principal Banda said he was very
proud of the effort and ability to
stick to the independent task
displayed by the students.
Several studcnLs also wrote to the
Texas Water Commission to
protest allowing chemical
companies permit to dump
hazardous materials in La Vaca Bay.
