Victor B. Saenz has been named
the valcdictorian for the 1992
graduating class at La Joya High
School.
The class consists of 410 seniors.
Victor's overall fou "-ycar average of
97.00 was quite an
accomplishment, considering the
courses he Kxjk- eight Honors and
five AP classes. These included
seven Math and five Scicncc
courscs.
Victor is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Benito Saenz of La Grulla. His
grandparents arc Mr. and Mrs.
Antonio Trcvino of Rio Grande
City and Mrs. Emilia D. Saenz of
La Grulla. He attends Holy Family
Church in La Grulla.
Victor will be attending the
University of Texas at Austin and
majoring in Architectural
Engineering. He has been acccptcd
to the PREVIEW program at
UT-Austin, where he will earn six
semester hours during the summer.
He has already earned credit for
college Physics based on his AP
scorc from last year and is currently
awaiung the results of his AP tests
in Calculus and Government.
Victor has had a very active four
years at La Joya High School. He
played basketball for two years and
baseball for one. He is the Band's
drum major, and is Vice-Prcsidcnt

complete project
Boy Scout Troop 93 in Rio
Grande City completed a servicc
projcct on Saturday, May 16.
Those taking part were scouts
Matthew Brown, Raudcl Rodriguez,
Angel Ortiz, Jose Adan Riojas, Eric
Garza, and Efrcn Carrcra. After the
servicc projcct, the boys were
treated to a swimming outing.
Troop 93 is getting equipment
ready for their trip to Camp Perry
the week of June 14-20; however,
there arc some boys who still lack
their money to pa> for their camp
fees.
These boys arc Uxiking for odd
jobs to cam camp money. Anyone
with an odd job for a hoy 12-17
years of age should call

Troop 93 welcomes three new
Scoutmasters to their ranks They

He was the captain of the
Masterminds Team. He represented
La Joya in the Valleywidc
Technology Committee. He was
the Rotary Student for the month of
September.
In the past two years, Victor has
also had very active summers with
two UT Band camps, Lorenzo dc
Zavala, where he was clcctcd
Senator; two drum major camps,
MITES at M.I.T. in Boston, and
the PREVIEW program this
summer at UT-Austin.
