Altogether, these Civil War and Reconstruction-era papers include information about events in Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington D.C. They reflect the experiences of women, professional men, military men, Texas cattlemen, businessmen, farmers, and government officials, from different parts of the country, with different political views and experiences. The project was generously funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
