Future

It may be house work, forest
management, pasture improve-
ment or just going iishing, we
always give it some thought as to
when, where and why. To me, a
planned program is always suc-
cessful.
Now tet us think about what
happened iast November, and
what we can do about that prob-
lem and how we can make our
homes and barns safe by having
a good iire lane constructed,
burn trash in a safe trash burner,
never burn when the wind is
high, always have a good fire
lane when burning fields, plenty
of help, water and all the tools
you may need, and listen to the
radio and TV stations for infor-
mation on fire danger and burn-
ing conditions, also your local
newspaper. This information witl
be given until this bad iire danger
changes.
We have equipment available
to us whereby we can heip you,
at a very low cost, minimum
charge, $10.00. Following is the
cost list:
Fire brake plowing, $4.00 per
hour; standby white control burn-
ing, $1.50 per hour.
This application must be ac-
companied by a check for the
approximate charges. This trac-
tor can construct approximately
one miie of fire ianes per hour.
Any refund or additional charges
witi be made after plowing is
completed. Check should be made
payabie to the Cherokee County
Rural Fire Prevention Fund.
We are ready to help with your
problems.

Several foiks have been asking
if it is safe to feed cottonseed to
cattle. The answer is yes. Cotton-
seed has 20 per cent protein.
Four pounds of cottonseed fur-
nishes as much protein and more
titan twicj as much energy as
two pounds of 41 per cent cot-
tonseed meal. Not more than
four to five pounds of cotton-
seed shoutd be fed in a daiiy
ration.
Several foiks have been send-
ing in soil sampies to determine
whatfertiiizertouse on their
cover crops. Foiks sending in
samptes were Vernon Ellington,
Grady D.tpree, A. N. Barber, and
Dan Guy.
Mr. Guy has also taken pro-
tein checks on his hay. Hardy
Long is getting protein checks
on his NK 37 bermuda grass.
The army worms have finaily
decided to slow down according
to reports from over the Coun-
ty.
Do not forget your gasoline
tax refund. Pick up your blanks
at any bank in Cherokee County
or at your Extension Service Of-
fice in the court house annex in
Rusk before September 30.
We are approaching the fire
season; Bertis Watson of the
Texas Forest asks for everyone
to *se all precaution when
burning trash or using fire in
anyway.
