NEWS RELEASE
5-30-72 - special to the Herald Contact: Pat Porter
On Wednesday, July 26, the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts will open
an exhibition entitled Interchange, the first in a series of two-museum regional
invitational exhibitions.
Organized by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis this project will
consist of exhibiting together the work of two or three artists each from two
separate regions, the exhibition to be shown in both cities.
The first Interchange, selected by Robert M. Murdock, Curator of
Contemporary Art, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts and Richard Koshalek, Curator,
Walker Art Center, will continue in Dallas through September 4 and will then
be shown in Minneapolis December 17 through January 28, 1973.
Murdock assessed the value of such exhibitions as having strong decentrali-
zation aspects, pointing up the strength of art being produced in areas other
than New York and Los Angeles and enabling artists from different regions to
exchange ideas.
The Texas artists whose work will be shown in Interchange are George T.
Green, Sam ssmmelt and Jim Roche. The Minnesota artists will be sculptor Carl
Brody and painters Jim Kielkopf and Jerry Ott. All six artists will shown
new work, with some pieces created specifically for this exhibition. George
Green will exhibit two large tile pieces and drawings related to the 1951 Buick;
Sam Gummelt will shown -ewn cloth pieces and drawings and Jim Roche will exhibit
large drawings on mylar and a new piece made up of shapes in colored wire.
