Dr. Meyer Bodansky
John Sealy Hospital
Galveston, Texas
Dear Dr. Bodansky:
We are discussing reorganization of our hospital
laboratory and I should be very grateful if you would give me some
advice and answer some questions.
Do you think that an adequately trained director
with two technicians, one for chemistry and one for bacteriology
and serology, plus a dishwasher, would be a sufficient force to han-
dle the laboratory for a 150 bed hospital? The laboratory is respon-
sible for all routine examinations including basal metabolisms. It
would be very helpful to have your detailed answer for this question
with recommendations as to training, personnel and so on. Could
you also give me some idea of costs in your laboratory and of the
charges made to patients? Does the Society of Clinical Pathologists
have any definite recommendations as to size of staff or any other
matters of organization? I s there any actual connection between
the laboratory and the Lepartment of Pathology at Texas? It seems
to me that there is not I should like to know what the set-up is for
tissue patholggy and the scale of charges for such examinations, also.
Amy advice that you send will be very welcome.
I hope that the summer treated you and the family
kindly. I had hoped to get to Galveston but storms and a few other
things seemed to prevent. Greetings to you all.
Cordially yours,
