Monday, Dec. 20
A blood drive that will benefit Meek
Blood Center and the Nolan County
Welfare Office Food Pantry will take place
on Monday, Dec. 20. Meek Blood Center
will have two bloodmobiles parked at the
Nolan County Courthouse from 10 a.m.
until 6 p.m. Donors are asked to bring
at least two non-perishable food items
to the blood drive. In return, those who
donate blood will receive a long-sleeve
T-shirt and a $5 Sonic gift card.
Tuesday, Dec. 21
FFB Open House
First Financial Bank will have their
open house from 9 a.m. to noon on
Tuesday, Dec. 21. There will be tradition-
al gingerbread, wassail and Christmas

Texas National Bank will have their
holiday open house from 10 a.m. to 3

The County-City Library will be closed

The City of Sweetwater business offic-
es will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 23,
and Friday, Dec. 24, for the Christmas
Holiday and on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010.
There will be no residential refuse collec-
tion Thursday, Dec. 23, or Friday, Dec.
24. All residential routes will be collect-
ed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday,
Dec. 20-22. In addition there is no resi-
dential refuse collection on Friday, Dec.
31. The Sweetwater residential cart ser-
vice will be picked up on Wednesday,
Dec. 22, and Thursday, Dec. 30, instead
of Friday, Dec. 24, and Dec. 31, 2010.
All commercial refuse collection will be
run as scheduled during Christmas holi-
day. There will be no commercial refuse
collection on Friday, Dec. 31. Friday's
route will be collected on Thursday, Dec.
30. The citizens drop-off center and
Type-IV landfill will be closed Thursday,
Dec. 23, through Sunday, Dec. 26, and
will reopen with their normal schedule
Monday, Dec. 27. The citizen drop-off
center and Type-IV landfill will be closed
Friday, Dec. 31, and reopen on Monday,
Wednesday, Dec. 29
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health
Department will continue to administer
the flu vaccine on Wednesdays dur-
ing regular immunization clinic. Their
next immunization clinic will be held
Wed., Dec. 29, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and
1:30-4:30 p.m. Cost is $20 for adults,
$6 for children (6 months through 18
years). They accept Medicare Part B and
Medicaid and CHIPS for children only.
New students are now being accept-
ed for GED classes. Classes are Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m.
to noon and Wednesdays and Thursdays
from 6-9 p.m. Classes are free and are held
at 1200 Henderson in the old PPI building.

The Veterans Readjustment Counseling
Services are the community-based profes-
sionals within the VA who welcome home
the war veteran by providing top-quality
compassionate readjustment assistance to
the veteran and their family in order to
facilitate a successful return to civilian
life within their community. They offer
individual, group, marital and family coun-
seling to Combat Veterans of all wars and
their families. Counseling is also available
to any Veteran who experienced any form
of sexual harassment or sexual assault
while serving in the military. In addition,
bereavement counseling is afforded to the
families who have lost their service mem-
ber while on Active Duty. A Vet Center
Counselor will be available in Sweetwater
on Thursdays beginning in December to
better serve the surrounding community.
The Taylor County Vet Center looks for-
ward to serving Veterans and their families

Donations of gently worn coats for
children can be dropped off at Bahlman
Cleaners, located at 910 E. Third Street in
Parks Being Winterized
As of Nov. 24, 2010, The City of
Sweetwater Public Works Department
will be winterizing all Parks, Sweetwater
Cemetery and Lake Sweetwater camp-
ground restrooms by turning off the water
to these facilities for the remainder of the
cold season. For information concerning
the use of park facilities, please contact the
Sweetwater City Service Center at 325-235-

Men's Downtown Bible Class
Eveiy Sunday, at 9 a.m., the Men's
Downtown Bible Class will meet at the
Masonic Lodge. An imitation is extended
to all men to come and enjoy coffee, donuts
and worship before church. The Masonic

eveiy last Tuesday of the month at Bee's

Mustang Moms are selling Mustang
blankets and Mustang shoulder tote bags.

Self Defense Clinic
Team Chip Tae Kwon Do will offer a free
women's self defense clinic, to be held the
second Tuesday of eveiy month. The clinic
is open to ladies ages 12 and up. It will be at
Team Chip in Sweetwater, located at 1500
Cypress in Sweetwater at 7:30 p.m.

maybe picked up in Room 216 at SHS. A
few extra copies are available to purchase.
The Sweetwater Lady Mustangs are hav-
ing several fundraisers this year including
the sale of Lady Mustangs t-shirts and
Lady Mustang window decals. Call 235-

The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club meets at
noon eveiy Wednesday, at Bee's Decor,

Low Income Tax Clinic
The Texas Tech School of Law operates
a Low-Income Tax Clinic to provide assis-
tance relating to issues involving contro-
versies with the Internal Revenue Service
to low-income taxpayers and to individuals
for whom English is a second language.
Law students, under the supervision of
a law professor, handle a wide range of
issues such as innocent spouse, offers in
compromise, federal tax levies, payment
agreements and representation before the
United States Tax Court. Persons inter-
ested in seeking representation should
contact the Texas Tech Law School Low

Beginner line dance classes with Kathy
Arrant will be held at the Elks Lodge in
Sweetwater eveiy Wednesday night from
7-8:30 p.m., beginning Wednesday, July
21. Cost for each class is $6 with a portion
of the proceeds going to help support the
Elks Lodge programs. Come early for the
Elks' special hamburger night and have a
bite before class. Line dancing is a great
way to get some exercise while having fun

A scholarship fund has been set up in the
name of F. Michael Cavitt who was killed
in a car accident Dec. 25, 2009. The schol-
arship will go to a graduating senior and
band student at Sweetwater High School.

Sweetwater Elks Lodge will have a ham-
