The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club held the 20th annual Star Search competition on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011. Many
local students showcased their talents at the event. Shown are the winners of the elementary division, Madison

Kyrsten Smith won second place singing "Wind Beneath My Wings," accompanied by her grandfather Skeet

RPMH hosts
free diabetic
support group
Rolling Plains Memorial
Hospital is offering a free
diabetic support group
meeting on Feb. 1, 2011 at
the hospital's Emergency
Department Classroom
(200 E. Arizona Ave.).
Beginning at 2 p.m., the
hour-long program will
focus on appropriate exer-
cise routines for individuals
with diabetes.
"Proper and adequate
exercise is just one of the
critical components in man-
aging diabetes," said Rosa
Best, chief nursing officer
at Rolling Plains Memorial.
"In addition to supporting
your body's efficient use of
insulin, exercise also con-
tributes to your overall
health."
Diabetes mellitus, typi-
cally referred to as diabetes,
affects one in 10 adults in
the United States. According
to the Center for Disease
Control and Prevention
(CDC), diabetes is one of
the leading causes of death
in the nation.
"There are 20.8 million
Americans living with diabe-
tes," said Best. "Nearly one
third of them are unaware

in Sweetwater on Tuesday,
Jan. 25, 2011, from 10 a.m.
to 1 p.m. to provide hous-
ing loan and grant pro
gram information and

lic. The office day will
be held at the Chamber
of Commerce, 810 East
Broadway in Sweetwater.
Representatives will be
available to answer ques-
tions and assist individu-
als with applications.

payment loans can be
used to purchase existing
homes or to build new

ROBY - The fourth
annual Distinguished
Lectureship in Quail
Management con net-
ed by the Texas AgriLife
Extension Service is set for
8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on
Friday, Jan. 28, in Roby.
The program will be held
in che First Baptist Church
fellowship hall, located at
107 N. College Street.

past, this program is more
