A in a*. • pupc r eciitoii.il I read
lecently caused me to pause in
my l>us\ day to pondn two ol
the most powerful lories that
alfect oiu lives today—love and
tear.
The author wrote "1 can
think of no two words moie op-
posed to each other than the
words love and fear They are
diametrically opposed I h e y
cannot be alike
"Love is always building,
fear is always tearing down
Love is the light which guides
us all like a star, leir is always
trying to pull us out of this light
into darkness. Love is always
warming, but fear thills us to
the very marrow of our bones
"It is the love of life, of na-
ture. of beauty, of friends that
enables us t• ■ see t!.e futility of
fear.
"The Bible bt rs repeated
reminders that we arc not to
be fearful. Jesus' powerful
words, 'Fear not only believe.'
|,av" strengthened thousands of
;• •>!>lc. Also III the Bible IS tlllS
gieat truth, 'Perfect love casteth
nut tear.'
"We are unafr-.'d when we
love much. The nioie we lose
the snow-clad hills of winter,
the flower-covered fields of
summer and all the wonders of
God's creation, the less afraid
we become of the storms
stresses of nature.
"When we look some great
test m the face and say to our-
selves, 'N'o, I am not afraid"
then it is that strength rises
within us to bear us through It s
love that does it Fear can bring
nothing but failure If you love
enough, you can wipe fear from
your life."
It is hard to realize the force
and power of love. Many peo-
ple think of love as a weak pas-
sive thing, but it is actually a
positive, powerful, motivating
force in our lives.
There is a wonderful gospel
about Cod's love which
song
says
"Could we with ink the ocean
fill. And were the skies of parch-
ment made; Were every st.ilk
on earth a quill And every man
a senhc by trade, To vwite the
love of Cod above Would drain
the ocean drv. Nor • < > !<! the
scroll contain the vvhoh Though
stretched from skv to sk\
This is the love of Cod for
us.
And that love within us keeps
us from being afraid It allows
us to enjoy abundant life. Re-
member, Cod has not given us
a spirit of fear but of love Cod
has given us abundant life.
