moments, we know that his dream is realistic and obtainable.
Because of his character, academic background and gifts of
leadership, Dr. Kim is preeminently qualified to be president of any
institution. We are fortunate to have him at McMurry. He is a great
Christian gentleman with a commitment to the highest ethical and
Christian values.
The future of McMurry is great. McMurry is just
getting roots going down, and now the dreams, goals and higher
heights in the attainment of Christian education are possible. Dr.
Kim keeps dreaming about a greater McMurry—he doesn't have to
be asleep to dream—he just dreams for McMurry.
These past 10 years in the Northwest Texas and
New Mexico Annual Conferences, we have almost stopped talking
about how badly the conferences need McMurry. Clear evidence of
the tie and relationship between McMurry and the United
Methodist Church is the success of the annual fund drive, the new
buildings on campus and the love shown by the two Conferences for
the college in building the United Methodist Campus Center.
As we face the 80s, McMurry must be sure that the
religious dimension of knowledge, human values and the teachings
of Jesus Christ not be neglected. We must be sure that a steady
stream of young men and women from Methodist families of our
two annual conferences take advantage of what McMurry has to
offer. Finally, we must keep our current annual fund program
strong within the church and we must bring our endowment up to
one million dollars for each one hundred students making up the
enrollment (15 million).
I give thanks for McMurry and its vast accomplish-
ments under the leadership of President Tom Kim during these last
10 years. I have a lot to do but what I'm finding myself doing most is
dreaming and thinking of McMurry.
