Local activists split on national march
Some have already booked flights for Oct. 11 event in Washington,
while others say community should focus on Dallas, Austin

There will be a gay rights march and rally in
Washington, D.C., on Sunday Oct. 11. The ques-
tion is> who will be there?
Dallas activists Elizabeth Pax and Laura
McFerrin have both said to count them in.
"I just reserved a room and booked my flight
last night," McFerrin said in a recent e-mail, "I

Most Texans favor some form of legal recog-
nition for same-sex relationships, according to a
new poll by the Texas Lyceum Association.
According to the poll results released this
week, 32 percent of those
questioned said they sup-
port civil unions, and 25
percent believed in mar-
riage equality, while 36
percent opposed both.

partisan Texas Lyceum
Association conducts the
Paul Scott Texas Lyceum Poll. The
organization consists of 96 younger men and
women from across the state with a mission to
identify a new generation of leaders and bring
understanding of major issues to key state deci-
sion makers.

attended the march in 2000 and was impressed
by the number of people that attended. I am
looking forward to meeting people from all over
the United States that are fighting for marriage
equality."
And Pax said in a phone interview that she is
"way excited" about the march.
"I think it's a great idea.
Any time we can remind
the public we exist and are
still fighting for our rights,
it's a good thing," Pax
said. "Also, it would be
awesome to have some
face-to-face time with
activists from around the
country. I know a lot of
people say there^s no point, since Congress
won't be in session then. But just being there

Omni to offer
DP benefits at
Convention
Center hotel
Irving-based company also joins
North Texas GLBT Chamber

Omni Hotels has agreed to offer domestic
partner benefits to its employees at Dallas' city-
owned Convention Center Hotel, representa-
tives from the city and the
North Texas GLBT
Chamber of Commerce
announced this week.
Irving-based Omni
Hotels has also joined the
North Texas GLBT
Chamber as a Silver Level
corporate member, the
chamber said. A represen-
tative from Omni Hotels couldn't immediately
be reached for comment.
The question of whether Omni Hotels would
offer DP benefits to Convention Center hotel
employees was raised by Dallas Voice two
months ago.
