In his first official executive order, Governor Bill Clements, Jr.,
created the Mayors Advisory Committee to the Governor. The
panel will consist of 30 mayors appointed by the governor and
serving in a volunteer capacity. The committee was estab-
lished to aid communication and coordination between the
governor and mayors and cities. In other action by the gover-
nor, a proclamation was issued to reinstate the temporary 55
mph speed limit set by the State Highway Commission This
maximum speed limit was reinstated to comply with federal law
and to prevent a loss of federal highway funds
The Department of Human Resources is revising its rules on
food stamp fraud and abuse, nondiscrimination compliance,
and disqualification because of fraud The amendments are
being made as a result of federal changes in regulations of the
United States Department of Agriculture, which governs the
Food Stamp Program The rules have a federally mandated
effective date of March 1. 1979.
