The German"drive for taris",the Chautauqua,College
commencement, the Baptist meeting and a fire are making
things rather interesting here the last few days.
We gave way to the Baptist meeting last night and
---just before the benediction was pronounced the fire *
whistle blew which caused quite a rush for the door as
soon as service was over. Whenthe firemen got to the ho
house (Mr.Curd's) it was too far gone for saving, but
they did some heroic work in saving the house next to i
Saturday was the occasion for the opening of the
new Government Building (Post Office). The Chairwoman
of the thrift stamp movement took advantage of the occa
sion to sell thrift stamps to the throngs who were
present and the sales amounted to over $3,400. Red Croo
activities were in evidence too,and they coined a great
deal of money. An Air-plane came from Wichita Falls to
-add to the entertainment of the day. There were also
a few patriotic speeches, and the day ended with every
one tired but happy.
We had another aturday night which helped the
thirsty crops some. Sunday a rain fell East and Northeast
of here which flooded the country where it fell.
General Asserbly proceedings were very interesting
this year, especially regarding the matter of organic u
ion with the Northern church. It is a crying shame thd
the Southern Assembly cannot see fit to throw aside
petty differences which separate the two churches and
unite our forces with the great Northern forces of the
grand Northern church in spreading the gospel to the
lost over the whole earth.
Here’s what’s next.
