My Dear Son

Your welcome favor of the 30th Ulto. came
to hand yesterday. I read it with much pleasure and
interest. I think you did right in offering my land
for sale. I agree with you, that it is best to get it
into something available & more manageable. Your
Pa, once , in 1852, saw this labor you speak of, he said
it was a valuable location; good land & timber upon it.

A few days since I had an interview with Capt.
Hightower, in regard to our claim, he is of opinion
that the new Constitution bars it but said if he
saw any chance for getting it that he would do
all in his power for us, that he had no doubt of its
being a just claim &c &c. Now if I understand the
meaning of the new Constitution under the head of
Requirements and Limitations, Sec 44,853, we are not bared. If a
foreign ministers salary was fixed by law, and as
I always understood your father it was & to be paid
in Par money, as the money issued by the Repub
-lic of Texas was always below par, down as low
