"The records of Gillespie County were moved to the new courthouse and arranged in the summer of 1940 and were inventoried in February of 1941."--Preface

Gillespie County was created in 1848. The earliest county records were kept in a log-cabin storehouse which burned in 1850. "This incident deprived the county of all the records of its first 2 years."--p. 6
