entry, p. 25) Abbreviations, Symbols, and Explanatory Notes
The County Board of School Trustees has no office in the courthouse;
it usually meets in the county superintendent's department. Records of
the b ard are kept by the superintendent, who is its secretary.
The County School Superintendent's department, on the first floor,
consists of an office, a vault, and a book room. The office is on the
northvwert corner of the building, and the book room is adjacent to the
east. Records of the department are kept in the vault, which adjoins the
office. The records and books of this department are well arranged, and
are readily accessible to the public. There is sufficient work space in
the office for the regular personnel and for visitors,
The County Surveyor has no office in the courthouse. All of his records
are kept in the county clerk's department, and have been discussed
under that heading,
The office of Inspector of Hides and jAni.mlals is defunct in De Witt
County. Extant records of this office are rkept by the justice of the
peace and the county clerk.
Storerooms. There are three storage rooms for records in the' curthouse,
one in the basement and two on the third floor. The third fl-)-r
rooms are designated "east storeroom" and "west storeroom" in this Inventory.
All three house obsolete records of the various county offices and
agencies, None of the storerooms is equipped with facilities for persons
desiring to consult the records.
