CHS Wildcat Band aces A-2A UIL
Concert and Sightreading Contest
The Canadian High School Wildcat Band garnered across-
the-board I's in A-2A UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest
held April 17 at Boys Ranch.
Conducted by Director Will Brewer, the Concert Band
performed "Inglesina" by Cese/
Bourgeois, "As Summer Was Just
Beginning" by Daehn and "Cajun
Folk Songs" by Ticheli.
One judge commented, "The
mighty Canadian band looks awe-
some!" From another, "I really
enjoyed your performance today.
Much hard work by all has gone into
this and it is paying off. Keep it up."
A sightreading judge wrote,
"very disciplined group—looking
over parts, fingering parts, help-
ing each other as needed. Excellent
ensemble sound." Another said,
"Good to see parent support. Very
attentive and focused band...Good
instruction!"
Other 2A schools competing
were Panhandle High School, River Road ISD, Childress High
School, Bushland High School, Highland Park ISD, Panhandle
High School, West Texas High School, Friona High School,
Stratford High School, Tulia ISD and Dimmitt High School.
In the UIL contest held on April 23, the Canadian Middle
Band concert Sunday
The bands of Canadian ISD will perform
their annual spring concert on Sunday, May 4,
at 2 p.m., at the Canadian High School gym-
nasium. The 5th Grade Band will play record-
ers. The 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Bands also will
perform, using some of the music from the re-
cent UIL concert contest. The Canadian High
School Wildcat Band will perform their contest
music and other selections they will use for their
May 9-12 trip to Branson, Missouri, where they
will open for the Acrobats of China show at the
New Shanghai Theatre.
School Eighth Grade Band, directed by Jerod Hon, received two
I I's and one I on Concert, and two I's and one II in Sightreading.
Their selections were "Newcastle March" by Johnnie Vinson,
"American Folk Tune Adventure" by Gorham and "Under an
Irish Sky" by Neeck.
One concert judge said, "Wow,
a very challenging program! Con-
grats to you for taking on such a
challenge...congrats to you and your
fine director." And a sightreading
judge commented, "Students are
very attentive...thanks for your per-
formance."
The CMS Seventh Grade Band,
directed by Will Brewer, received
I I's across the board in their compe-
tition. They performed "Integrity
March" by William Owens, "Ayr-
shire Portrait" by Story and "Two
Minute Symphony" by Margolis.
"Good style...good job," from a
Concert judge. "Some good things
going on in this band...keep working
hard," said a Sightreading judge.
"We are extremely proud of all the bands," said Brewer.
"The seventh graders have shown tremendous growth and did
a really good job."

for 2008-2009 School Year
Kindergarten "Roundup" for 2008-2009
Kindergarten Roundup, pre-registration, is scheduled for Friday. May 2, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. until
10:30 a.m. in a come-and-go format in Room B110 of the Kindergarten wing of Canadian Elementary
School, The pre-registration is for all children who will be entering Kindergarten next fall and who will be
five years of age on or before September I. 2008, Parents are asked to accompany their children to fill out
forms and pick up information. The pre-registration will provide valuable information in planning the
Kindergarten program for the 2008-2009 school year.
Pre-Kindergarten "Roundup" for 2008-2009
A four-year-old Pre-Kindergartcn, pre-registration, is scheduled for Friday. May 2, 2008. from 8:30 a.m.
to 10:30 a.m. in a come-and-go format in the Canadian Elementary Cafeteria, To be eligible for enrollment,
a child must be four years of age on or before September 1, 2008. All children meeting the age requirement
will be eligible for the CISD Pre-Kindergarten program, which will operate on a Vi day basis. Parents arc
encouraged to "spread the word" about the program to ensure involvement of all eligible students in our
community. CISD encourages parents to pre-register their children, thus providing valuable information for
planning the Pre-Kindergarten program for the 2008-2009 school year.
