Monday night the Commercial
Club met at the Courthouse to dis-
cuss the railroad situation. Judge
; L. Gough, vice-president. occupied
the chair. Several short talks were
made. It was voted to recommend
that an additional bonus be ottered
j the construction company upon pro-
vision that they make contract to
extend the line to the T & P at
once. Adjournment was made until
Wednesday. 4 P. M . and a general
call was issued to meet at the opera
house. At that hour about 175 cit-
izens assembled, president Knight
in the chair. T E. Shirley stated
the object of the meeting, wmch
was to offer $70, jOu in the aggre-
gate for the construction of the road
from the Rock Island to the Texas
& Pacific, none o: the bonus being
I payable until the road was in actual
operation from the Rock Island to
I Hereford. A number of questions
! were propounded The chair made
a few remarks as to the necessity of
|concerted action G. A F. Parker
offered a resolution covering the
I points under discussion. The reso-
lution was passed without a dissen-
ting /ote. It was expected that Dr
Barton, president of the company,
and Mr. Robinson, secretary, would
be present but they were detained
on a trip up the '..ne to the Rock Is-
land and did not get back in time
