From the success that hae invaria-
bly followed the planting of eweet
potatoes and especially the good
yield- made by-many of the truck
growera last season, there is likely
be an increased acreage this aeason.
The variety, however, will be a
factor in marketing the crop. Some
say that nothing but the pumpkin
yarns will sell for canning, and that
the white queens are not suitable.
The Portalea Association has been
making some investigation and it
has found that only certain varieties
are marketable. The Portales Times
in reporting the matter says:
"In their inquiries into the mar-
keting qualities of the different
varieties of sweet potatoes they have
found there is only one kind which
haa any sale in the outside markets
and that is the Yellow Jersey.
There are very few people here who
have tried this variety, but there
have been enough tried it to know
that it is a success, and that they
can grow thia variety here without
fail if they will only give them half
a chance."
