The Hereford Brand is going each week to about 608
ponplr in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.
Most of these are people who own land in this section or
are interested in some way in the country. They are tak-
ing the Brand because they are interested in this country
and its development. Many of those bought their laud in
the boom days of five or six years ago. Many of them
feel that they bought it too high, others feel that they were
held up and robbed and some of them are sore on the
country and her people. Now the Brand would feel re-
creant to a sacred trust if it did not give these people the
exact truth about the country and its developement. We
have no land to sell, hence have no ax to grind.
We are looking at the country from the standpoint of
these northern farmers, being from that great state where
you have to show people. Our eyes have been and are
open for the truth. So with an unbiased mind we are go-
ing to try to give those non-resident readers the exact truth
as we see it
Many ot you did buy your land too high in the sense;
that you could have bought it for less if you had come!
here and taken the time to investigate. You did not buy;
it above its real intrinsic value but above its market value. |
in most cases you were induced to do this by the real estate [
shark from your o*n town who had an operator at each1
end. Their main effort was spent in keeping you from a
real knowledge of conditions and prices. The real citizen- j
ship of this country, those who were here then and arej
here yet, those who are laboring through fat years and lean
years, such as every country has had, had no hand in this
