ATop: Winchester Model 1873 repeating rifle 3rd Variation, .44/40 caliber
centerfire, 1882. Serial No. 102079A
This is the only known firearm once owned by Quanah Parker now held in
a public collection. Probably given to Parker by Texas cattlemen who leased
grazing lands on the Comanche reservation in the early 1880s; the top of
the barrel is inscribed: "Quanah Parker /Crescent/ May 14, 1883." Among
the possible presenters of the rifle were Colonel B. B. Groom representing the
Francklyn Land and Cattle Company and Samuel Burk Burnett of the 6666
Ranch. Museum purchase. From the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum,

Serial No. 43411. Donor: Mrs. H. D. Bugbee. Owned by artist H. D. Bugbee,
the "Charlie Russell of Texas." This barrel is sawed off. From the Panhandle-
