Wellington, Texas, way back when. The life-long Wellington
resident, merchant, and former mayor recalls the vitality, the
optimism, and the youthfulness of a small town where cotton
was king, the girls were all pretty, and every storefront had
something new to sell.
Opposite page: The lights on the marquee of the Ritz Theater in Wellington lit up the Panhandle sky once again in 2004, after
being dark for more than 20 years. All photographs are by Kirby Campbell.
