Denton's first public library opened on June 6, 1937, in Denton County Courthouse. It quickly outgrew the space and in 1949, the City of Denton donated a tract of land on Oakland Street for a new library.

Cookbook compiled by members of the Central Presbyterian Church of Denton, Texas. The cookbook contains 50 recipes from Denton women and advertisements for local companies. The date of creation was determined by the following articles that appeared in the Denton Record-Chronicle, "Activities Planned by Young People C.E. from 01 Feb 1934 reads “Miss Whitehead, chairman of the cook-book [sic] committee, presented a tentative list of contents for the book which the council will issue soon as a financial project.” Followed by “Young People’s Council in Session” on 21 Mar 1934 “It was decided that the cook-book, a financial project which the council was to sponsor will not be compiled at this time.” There are no other articles except one from the 1950s which described the cookbook as "old." In addition, Saint Andrew's Presbyterian was known as Central Presbyterian from 1910 to 1939.
