Smily Saints
wins 1st prize!
It's now official. .Santa Claus has a yellow
"Smiley" face. At least it's official at Ft. Hood.
When Spec. 4 Richard L. Bowers a drafts
man with HHD 366th Sig. Bn. was thinking of
what to enter in the HE Corps Ft. Hood Christ
mas Card Design Contest he decided that it
would only foe appropriate to portray jolly old
St. Nick with a Ft. Hood "Work Friendly" face.
So he did. And he won the $50 first prize.
Bowers could in fact well boast of "a win
ner every time." He has entered two Ft. Hood
contests in the last four months and he has won
first prize in both. In May he won the Keep
America Beautiful Poster Contest—another $50
award.
The first $50 was used to purchase a movie
camera to take movies of his new family addi
tion which arrived in July. His new prize money
he says he will spend on a leave which such a
consistent winner surely deserves.
It was a first for the second prize winner.
Spec. 4 Louis B. Tobin 502d MP 2 AD who is on
special duty as an engineer aide with Post Engi
neers won $25 for his design of a Christmas tree.
He decorated the .tree not with ornaments but
with unit insignias. He plans to add his award to
savings.
Friday Aug. 14 Lt. Gen. George P. Seneff
Commanding General HI Corps and Ft. Hood
presented the winners with their checks and con
gratulated each on his accomplishment.
